Officials to fine bus gate travellers
Sheffield motorists could soon find they pick up punishments for using bus gates in the city, it has been reported.
According to the Star, council officials have introduced new penalties for those found driving through the Bridge Street and Castlegate transport hubs.
The publication adds that those who are caught out will first receive a warning letter, followed by a fixed penalty notice of up to £60.
Motorists could find that this has an effect on car and bike insurance policies in the area, as it may be that cover firms increase costs if they consider such driving dangerous.
Bike Insurance - Great quotes!
"Using the bus lanes or gates may seem to take time off an individual motorist's journey but this is usually at the expense of others on the road," commented Councillor Bryan Lodge.
The official, who is also a cabinet member for transport and represents Streetscene at Sheffield Council, said that authorities do not want to fine drivers.
In response to winter weather affected roads earlier this month, council officials in the city took to adding Molasses to grit in an effort to make them easier to navigate.
