Residents employ cardboard cop to cut speed
Glasgow motorists are being reminded not to drive over the legal speed limit in the city by a cardboard road safety officer, according to a news source in the region.
Woodhill Residents Group in Bishopbriggs has set up Chip, named in tribute to the 1980s cop show of the same name, on Menteith Avenue in an attempt to curb rule breakers, reports the Glasgow Evening Times.
As a result, people living nearby could find that they save on their car and bike insurance policies as well as their lives, as some cover firms could offer cheaper policies to people without motor convictions.
Donald Macdonald, chairman of the residents group, believes the cardboard cut-out has proved to be effective so far.

"Chip has a fluorescent vest, so he can be spotted in the distance. He is certainly doing his job as almost every driver slows to take a look," commented the official.
This comes as the Bridlington Free Press reports that residents in Rudston have employed a similar method to keep speeding in the area down.
A scarecrow has been placed at the entrance to the village in an attempt to remind people to stay below the limit.
