Motorists 'can save £300 by going green'

People in the UK who choose to drive in an environmentally-friendly manner can save money as they do so, according to a price comparison and switching company.

Research from uSwitch.com suggests that up to £300 can be pocketed by motorists who use less fuel or end up paying cheaper road tax than others in Britain - perhaps due to the onset of the congestion charge.

It may also be that car and bike insurance firms offer cheaper cover policies to those who do their bit to reduce the size of their carbon footprint.

The Evening Standard reports that Ashton Berkhauer from the firm believes the issue is developing into an important one for motorists.

"A vehicle's green credentials are fast becoming a major selling point when it comes to buying a new car," commented the official.

Environmental issues have been brought to the attention of mainstream culture by former US vice president Al Gore.

The politician, who famously narrowly missed out on presidency to George W Bush in 2000, last year staged the Live Earth concerts in order to raise awareness of global warming and climate change.
