Insurance dodgers targeted by Yorkshire police
Motorists taking to roads in Yorkshire without car or bike insurance policies are to be targeted by officials in the region, it has been reported.
The Yorkshire Post states that there was an increase of close to 100 per cent in the number of drivers found without policies last year compared to the year before.
In 2006 some 78,000 people were caught out by officials across the UK, while in 2007 the figure almost doubled to 150,000, the publication states.
According to Superintendent Brian Kelly from Humberside Police, the effect of the motorists on roads in the region is "immense".

"We will use all our powers and available technology to cut down on the numbers of uninsured drivers on the region's roads," commented the official.
It could also be that by choosing not to take out car or bike insurance policies now, drivers leave themselves open to be charged more for deals in the future, as companies may view them to be representative of an increased risk.
Meanwhile, Miles Brignall this week told motorists in the Guardian to make sure they make good use of the internet when looking for a car or bike cover deal.
