UK's 'most dangerous roads in Cambridgeshire'

A fatal road accident is more likely on a highway in Cambridgeshire than anywhere else in Wales and England, according to a new report.

The study from Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Cambridgeshire County Council found that the region sees more highways deaths than any other, according to the Cambridge Evening News.

It maybe that car and bike insurance customers in the area find that the cost of cover goes up, as firms may perceive local roads representative of an increased risk.

PCT director of public health Liz Robin comments that Fenland sees the highest number of deaths in the county, something which may be attributed to the prevalence of rural roads there.

"People need to understand these types of road are more dangerous and be conscious of that," states the official.

This comes as statistics from the Department for Transport show a decrease in the number of deaths reported on UK roads in the last two years.

According to the government body, figures reveal that in 2005 there were 3,201 people killed, while in 2006 this fell to 3,150.
