Crackdown sees officers catch 14 phone-using drivers
Oxford police officers caught out rogue drivers in the area using their mobile phones in a two-hour crackdown yesterday, it has been reported.
The Oxford Mail states that officials conducted the programme between 08:00 GMT and 10:00 GMT on Marsh Lane in Headington, catching out 14 people breaking the law.
According to PC Mark Pilling for the Abingdon traffic unit, this is more rogue drivers than they were expecting to net.
It may now be that the motorists pick up a motoring conviction which can have an effect on a car or bike insurance policy as firms could consider them to be a risk to cover.

Furthermore, Department for Transport legislation means that those found to be breaking the law in such a manner can pick up a £60 fine as well as a three-point driving licence penalty.
PC Pilling believes that ignorance is a factor in such activity, adding that people simply need to learn the dangers of using a phone at the wheel.
He said: "Drivers know this is illegal and the purpose of these checks is to educate them on the fact these laws are there for a reason and do save lives."
