January Motorcycle registrations 'as expected'
The number of motorbikes registered in the UK in January is inline with industry expectations, according to a sector body.
Some 6,594 two-wheeled vehicles were officially documented by drivers over the course of the month, figures from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) show.
It may be that this now has a knock-on effect on the motorcycle insurance market, as the number of people now looking to pick up cover for their vehicle will roughly mirror the amount with new bikes.
But according to Craig Carey-Clinch, MCIA director of public affairs, the figures were expected for powered two-wheel (PTW) vehicles.

He said: "January is always a low sales month for PTWs ... We are probably seeing the effects of economic concerns and very poor weather...This week's small cut in interest rates is welcome and should help to stimulate the market a little."
This comes as Forbes reports that motorcycle registrations went down in Italy last month.
According to the news source, the number of bikes with engines greater than 50cc fell by 7.7 per cent, with 25,896 vehicles registered over the course of the month.
