Safety group issues tyre safety warning

Motorbike riders have been warned of the dangers of insufficient tyre maintenance by a road safety group.

TyreSafe has commented that people who leave their vehicles in storage over winter may be at risk as their wheels could deflate.

As a result, it may be that they are more likely to be involved in accidents and thus risk invalidating their bike insurance policies.

Similarly, cover firms may decide to charge them more for deals in the future if they view them to be a risk on the road.

TyreSafe also pointed out that an under-inflated wheel can have an effect on the environment as well, largely due to the fact that they can force the vehicle to do more work.

"Incorrect inflation can equally cause the bike to become unstable, affecting handling and cornering, but can also lead to an increase in fuel consumption and emissions," said the safety group.

This comes as Bradford Telegraph & Argus states that Bradford North Neighbouring Policing Team is to come down hard on bike riders making life difficult for residents in the area.
