Manchester motorists 'may benefit from smart traffic lights'
A system of smart traffic lights is to be installed in an area of Manchester in a bid to cut road congestion, according to a local news source.
The Manchester Evening News reports that the lights will be installed on the M56 as part of an £18 million initiative on Tuesday February 26th.
It may be that the road-calming measure sees people in the area save on their car and bike insurance policies, as the number of vehicles on highways could result in a smaller chance of an accident.
According to Sujad Hussain, Highways Agency project manager, the system has proved successful elsewhere.

"We have seen the system work well where it has already been implemented on other parts of the motorway network," he said.
"The system will allow traffic to join the motorway more smoothly and safely," the official added.
Meanwhile, the Blackburn Citizen reports that a new system of traffic lights is to be trialled in the town.
It may be that the initiative results in more consistent traffic flow and saves time for commuters.
