Officials cut speed limit at Northamptonshire blackspot
County council officials in Northamptonshire have cut the speed limit at an accident blackspot in the region, a local news source has reported.
The Northampton Chronicle and Echo states that authorities in the area have slashed the legal limit by 20mph to 40mph on Harlestone Road close to Church Brampton.
According to a council official, this comes following a review of the area's highways and a consultation over how collisions could be reduced.
It may be that the cut results in cheaper car and bike insurance policies in the region, as cover firms could judge the roads to be less dangerous if the number of accidents fall.

"The casualty reduction team have carried out a thorough assessment on Harlestone Road, near Church Brampton, and will be placing a new speed restriction of 40mph...within the next financial year," said the representative.
Meanwhile, figures released by the Department for Transport show a fall in the number of road deaths reported in the UK.
In 2006, there were some 3,150 fatalities reported on British highways, while in 2005 there were 3,201.
