Tameside police begin drug-driving crackdown
Police in Tameside are to crack down on motorists who flout the law by using drugs and driving, a local news source reported.
The Tameside Advertiser states that officials in the area will be carrying out tests on drivers, asking them to touch their nose with their eyes closed or walk in a straight line to prove they are not under the influence.
It may be that those who are found to be acting illegally pick up a motoring conviction, which could in turn see them struggle to obtain a cheap car or bike insurance policy in the future.

This is because some cover companies could consider them a road risk due to their behaviour on the highways.
According to Josie Wride from the Greater Manchester Casualty Reduction Partnership, taking to the road under the influence of illegal narcotics is an offence "as unacceptable as drink-driving".
"It also carries the risk of serious penalties, including prison," said the official.
Meanwhile, research conducted by Kent county council has found that close to one-fifth (18 per cent) of deaths on the road involve drugs.
