York officials launch unsafe vehicle crackdown
Police officers in York are to keep a close eye out for unsafe vehicles travelling on roads in the area, it has been reported.
The city's council body has got together with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency as well as North Yorkshire Police in order to carry out roadside checks on vehicles which may be breaking the law.
If a driver does pick up a motoring conviction, it may be that they find themselves having difficulty picking up a car or bike insurance policy in the future, as firms could consider them a risk on the road.

Tom Foxton, road safety project officer at City of York Council, states that those without cover deals often find themselves using unsafe vehicles.
"It is estimated that uninsured drivers are ten times more likely to have convictions for drink-driving and are six times more likely to be behind the wheel of an unroadworthy vehicle," commented the official.
This comes as statistics from the Department for Transport show that there were 3,150 people killed on UK roads over the course of 2006.
In 2005, there were 3,201 such occurrences reported by the group.
