Fuel duty hike contest by petrol official
A rise in fuel duty is not a good move for the UK in present economic conditions, it has been claimed.
Director of the RMI Petrol Retailers Association Ray Holloway commented that plans made to increase costs by two pence per litre are not in-line with the present state of Britain's economy.
He added that the proposals, made in last year's Budget, are now outdated as the UK's economic situation has since changed and that any hike should either be introduced after potential price increases this summer or scrapped indefinitely.

An increase in fuel duty may be a particular problem for drivers on British roads currently struggling to pay expensive car insurance and road tax bills.
Mr Holloway said: "The increased tax revenue from current high fuel prices means that there is no justification for the two pence per litre fuel tax increase, and this must now be cancelled or postponed by the chancellor."
Later on today Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling will deliver his first Budget address.
It marks the first Budget not to be delivered by Gordon Brown since 1996.
