Planning trips 'best way to avoid road fatigue'
Organising breaks when taking long trips is one of the best ways to stay alert while on the road, it has been claimed.
Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick has reported that tiredness can be kept to a minimum if motorists plan more effectively, according to the Herald.
The news source has cited YouGov figures which show that 75 per cent of drivers try to use fresh air to keep themselves awake on the road.

It also states that four per cent of people shake their heads vigorously to avoid falling asleep and three per cent slap themselves in the face.
By doing so, it may be that motorists avoid accidents and invalidating their car or bike insurance policies.
"Plan regular stops into a long trip and if you find yourself yawning pull over and take a break - this could make the difference between life and death," commented Mr Fitzpatrick.
Meanwhile, road safety bosses in Ireland have commented that one in five deaths on roads in the country is caused by motorists being tired, according to the Press Association.
