Speeding 'number one complaint for Humberside police'

Police in Humberside receive a large amount of complaints about speeding from residents in the region, according to a local news source.

The Scunthorpe Telegraph has commented that there were 1,524 people found breaking the speed limit between 2005 and 2007.

It may be that those who are caught out find that they compromise their car or bike insurance policies in the process, as cover firms could choose to offer them more expensive deals if they view them as a risk on the road.

North Lincolnshire casualty reduction officer PC Barry Gardner told the news source that people still risk their lives by breaking the limit across the region.

"I would like everyone to consider their actions when driving, and next time they feel the urge to speed in someone else's town, village or street, ask themselves: 'What makes me so special?'," said the official.

This comes as Department for Transport statistics show that there has been an improvement in the number of deaths on UK roads over the past two years.

Some 3,150 people were killed over the course of 2006, compared to 3,201 in 2005.
