Search referrals 'affected online insurance in 2007'
People looking for automobile insurance during 2007 were referred to deals via search engines more than they were in 2006, it has been found.
According to statistics from comScore, there were 8.9 million quotes generated using sites such as Google last year, representing a rise of 36 per cent against figures from 12 months previous.
This could mean that people looking for bike insurance quotes may be referred to deals by search engines with greater frequency.
Indeed, comScore revealed that consumers are more likely to investigate a cover firm once they have seen its advertising on the internet.

Vice-president of the company Kevin Levitt commented that insurers should possibly be looking to make the best use of internet advertising in the future.
He said: "In 2007, more than a quarter of all online auto insurance quotes were referred by a search engine."
This comes after research from the digital analyst found that General Motors (GM) is among the biggest proponents of online advertising in the motor industry.
According to the company, GM spent more on internet promotion than any other vehicle manufacturer over the course of January 2008.
