Motorcyclists urged to get safety-aware

Motorcyclists in Bridgnorth are being given a safety warning from police who are urging them to take more care when out on the roads.

Officers in the Shropshire town have witnessed ten fatal accidents in the past year, half of which involved motorcycles, a local newspaper reports.

According to the Shropshire Star, police are now looking to educate motorcyclists about road safety and to raise awareness of the possible dangers on the area's roads.

Sergeant Bob Matthews told the publication: "We don't want to alienate motorcyclists as they are visitors to the area, but overall we want them to be safe."

According to the road safety charity Brake, motorcyclists are the most vulnerable users of the roads. As well as taking sensible road safety precautions they should also ensure they have adequate bike insurance that covers them for accidents.

In 2005, the government launched a motorcycling strategy which outlined plans to improve the safety of motorcyclists and reduce fatal accidents.
