Oil price increase to hit bikers in the pocket

Petrol costs are set to increase as the price of oil grows - hitting motorists across the UK in the pocket, it has been reported.

The cost of fuel is currently at a record $112 (£56) per barrel, with the amount expected to be reflected at petrol pumps up and down Britain in the near future.

It may be that motorists are particularly affected by the increase in prices if they are already paying high car and bike insurance policies, as well as road tax costs.

Drivers are currently paying approximately 107.94p for unleaded petrol at garage forecourts in the UK, while diesel can be picked up at around 117.13p.

"For the majority of motorists, they are absorbing the extra cost into their budgets. But for the lower income driver who relies on their car, it's really beginning to bite," remarked Luke Bosdet, spokesperson for the AA.

Meanwhile, the Guardian has stated that petrolprices.com believes that the price of petrol will have increased to £1.50 per litre by the end of 2008 - possibly as soon as September.
