Petrol prices 'not down to forecourt retailers'
People paying more for petrol in the UK should not blame forecourt retailers for the increase, an industry association has claimed.
According to the RMI Petrol Retailers Association (PRA), the rise in prices recorded over the last twelve months or so is down to investment in the oil market, while traditional seasonal demand has also resulted in the hike.
People on the road already paying out for high road tax and car or bike insurance bills could find that the extra they are paying for fuel is making motoring an expensive pursuit.

But the PRA's Ray Holloway remarks that this is not down to forecourt retailers, adding that the finger can be pointed elsewhere.
"UK motorists still pay the highest fuel duty in the world. If this were reduced, motorists would immediately pay less for their fuel," commented the official.
The cost of petrol is expected to continue to rise throughout the rest of the year, the Guardian has reported.
According to the national newspaper, petrolprices.com believes that prices will be at approximately £1.50 per litre by the end of 2008.
