Maintenance work 'could delay local drivers'

Essential maintenance work being carried out by the Highways Agency is set to delay motorcycle riders in Bishop's Stortford next week, it has been reported.

The group is to carry out road works on a two-mile stretch of the M11 close to junction eight and the Stansted Road bridge near Elsenham.

According to the executive body, officials will put in place a 24-hour contraflow while also reducing the northbound entry slope road which leads to the M11 at junction eight.

People who find themselves rerouted by the work could find that they invalidate their motorbike insurance policies in the process.

This is because they may end up on unfamiliar roads and risk being involved in an accident.

Meanwhile, a crash at junction eight of the M6 has led to major resurfacing work being carried out.

According to the BBC, the Highways Agency closed the road to drivers for 14 hours on Monday while it fixed the problem, which was caused by a traffic collision.
