Pothole maintenance 'perturbs most motorists'

A number of drivers in Britain are becoming annoyed with the condition of the roads in the UK, it has been claimed.

Research from car supermarket firm Motorpoint has found that motorists believe that the amount of money they are spending on council tax is not justified when it comes to pothole repairs.

The company pointed to statistics from the Asphalt Industry Alliance which found that there are more than 3.5 million potholes in roads around the UK.

In addition, it cited research from Warranty Direct stating that British drivers paid approximately £2.8 billion for repairs to their vehicle's axle, suspension and steering caused by the hazards.

Similarly, it may be that motorists have to claim on their car or motorbike insurance policies due to problems caused by the potholes.

"It seems like a bad bargain for motorists to be paying out for pothole repairs that are not happening, covering the resulting compensation payments through council tax and stumping up for repairs to their own vehicles," said David Shelton, Motorpoint managing director.

Meanwhile, potholes on Leamington road in Daventry are to be fixed as part of a council initiative, reports the Daventry Express.
