Anti-litter crackdown sees A361 cleaned up

North Devon District Council officials have launched a new initiative in order to tidy up roads in the region, it has been reported.

According to the North Devon Gazette, teams have been set up by the body in an effort to clean up the A361 near Tiverton.

The news source added that officials are keen to tidy keep the highway well maintained as it provides an "important gateway" into the region.

It may also be that people caught littering while using their vehicles pick up an increased car or bike insurance policy as cover firms could view their actions as indicative of a risky driver.

Ray Cann, councillor and lead member for waste and recycling in the area, commented that the highway should be looked after in order to impress visitors.

"We have worked really hard to clean up the road in time for the busy holiday season but some drivers are continuing to act irresponsibly and undo all our hard work," he added.

This comes as the Chester Chronicle has reported that the Campaign to Protect Rural England has commented that littering is making Chester an eyesore.
