Charity event to raise funds for injured bobby
A police officer who lost a leg after a motorbike accident that happened 15 months ago is set to benefit from a special charity event.
Martin Miles, 49, from Peatmoor, received little compensation as the collision with a 4x4 vehicle happened when he was off-duty, reports the Gazette and Herald.
Mr Miles told the paper he is getting his life back on track as an amputee but that it had taken a great deal of time adapting to his new situation.
"I miss the buzz and the people from when I was out policing the streets," he said.

Some £15,000 has so far been raised for the Martin Miles Appeal Fund, which is hoped to receive another push with a midsummer ball on June 14th.
The black tie event, which will involve a four-course meal and charity auction at the Swindon Marriott, is the last event held specifically for Mr Miles, as he feels it is time for someone else to benefit from funds raised.
The fund will be used to pay for a mechanised prosthetic leg for Mr Miles.
According to the Think! road safety website, nearly 6,000 motorcyclists were seriously injured on UK roads last year.
While people on motorbikes make up only one per cent of total road traffic, nearly a fifth of all fatalities are motorcyclists.
