Bikers 'may pay fuel deposit'

Bikers may be asked to pay a deposit before filling up at Morrisons' filling stations, according to Motorcycle News (MCN).

According to the motorbike website, riders stopping for fuel at the supermarket have been asked to pay £5 up front.

Nip Gathani from the Milton Keynes store said the policy was withdrawn weeks ago. However, she conceded that if they considered a rider to be acting "suspiciously" that person would still be asked for a deposit.

She added that the policy had been introduced after a number of cases of riders leaving without paying.

Biker Tony Hales told MCN: "I stood by the pump waiting for it to be cleared when one of the staff approached me and informed me that motorcyclists now have to put a £5 deposit down before they will let them fill up."

Mr Hales said that he decided to take his business elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) has predicted a surge in the number of people applying for motorbike licences ahead of changes in the test procedure due to take place this October.
