Motorcycle insurance dodgers lose bikes

Motorists in Hampshire who failed to buy motorbike insurance are among thousands of drivers who may be regretting the decision to drive illegally.

According to thisishampshire.net, more than 10,000 insurance dodgers have had their vehicles seized in the county over the past three years after flouting the law.

Motorbikes have been among the targeted vehicles, the website reports.

Owners whose motorcycles have been seized have 14 days to produce the correct documentation at a police station and reclaim their bikes.

Riders who fail to do this will have their bikes crushed or sold if they are of high value.

Currently, it costs £105 to release a vehicle with an additional £12 per day holding charge for every day that the vehicle is impounded.

Recent research by Sainsbury's has revealed that over one million people in the UK have driven without insurance in the past 12 months.
