Eye tests 'should be given to drivers every three years'
People on the road should be given an eye test every three years so officials can ensure it is safe for them to be driving, a top vision specialist has claimed.
At the Drive Safe Roadshow at Olympia in London recently, Specsavers checked 500 people, finding that the eyesight of one-third was not up to standard, Optician Online has reported.
It may be that a regular eye test can help people preserve their bike insurance no-claims policies, as those made aware of vision problems can have it corrected and be safer on highways.

Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins commented that the study acted as a way of letting drivers know how important it is to get tested regularly.
"These results show that a significant number of London's drivers are worryingly unsafe. Being perceptive and alert as a driver, especially in a congested city such London, is crucial," commented the official.
According to figures from the Department for Transport, there were some 3,150 people killed on roads in the UK over the course of 2006.
This is down from the 3,201 killed on highways during 2005.
