Drivers using bus lanes 'may be caught on camera'

Motorbike riders who stray into bus lanes could face punishment as part of a new initiative being set up in Liverpool, a local news source has commented.

According to the Liverpool Daily Post, devices are to be installed in the Old Haymarket and Lime Street areas as a deterrent to rogue motorists.

Those who are caught out breaking the law by straying into the lanes could find that they pick up a £60 fine.

Similarly, it may be that bike insurance companies see such an incident as a threat to other motorists and as a result increase their policy costs.

Peter Millea, executive member of transport and local councillor, remarked that this is not a money-making exercise for authorities.

He said: "We are doing this purely to ensure there is good traffic flow around the city with a balance between public and private transport."

This comes as the York Press has remarked that motorists in the city could struggle when roadworks begin there next month.

Indeed, motorbike riders could find that diversions lead them to unfamiliar areas - possibly risking their bike insurance policies.
