Motor show goes green in 2008

This year's British International Motor Show will be showcasing the future of environmental motoring when it gets underway at the end of July.

Teaming up with the Department for Transport's Act on CO2 campaign, the Co-operative Insurance Greener Driving Pavilion will be set up, offering advice to motorists on how they can reduce the size of their carbon footprint.

Indeed, drivers who are more environmentally-friendly on the roads could find that they pick up cheaper car insurance policies, as cover firms often give better deals to those who go green.

Co-operative Insurance director of general insurance David Neave remarked that the company is looking to raise awareness of environmental issues in motorists.

"The aim is to give motorists who want to go green a better understanding of government schemes such as the new fridge-type efficiency labels on cars, tax bands on emissions and variable congestion charges," he said.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Transport Association has reported that Friends of the Earth believes the Conservative Party should put more pressure on Gordon Brown when it comes to environmental issues.
