Drivers 'may save with electric vehicles'
Motorists on British roads could find themselves saving money in the next few years if they pick up an electric vehicle.
The Daily Mail has reported that Sir James Dyson is looking to put such a model on the market which does not need fuel to run.
As a result, it may be that drivers save money from the amount they are not spending on petrol, leaving cash free to cover car and bike insurance policies as well as road tax bills.
Sir James commented that the perception of the electric car in the UK will undergo a makeover in the next few years, adding that he believes the vehicles will be more popular than petrol-based models within a decade.
"Electric cars are seen as city cars and to go 30 mph is quite enough, but in the future that will change. An electric motor can go to very high speeds," said the inventor.
Sir James Dyson is famous for developing the bagless vacuum cleaner.
He will be hoping that his electric car is more successful than the Sinclair C5 - a fuel-free model launched by Sir Clive Sinclair in 1985, which flopped.
