Mini motorbike crackdown conducted by police
Police in Stanwell and Ashford are cracking down on motorists causing problems for local residents by driving around the areas on mini motorbikes, it has been reported.
According to the Wimbledon Guardian, officials in the region are performing stop checks on people riding the vehicles in order to make sure they have taken the proper safety precautions.
These include a licence, vehicle tax and a bike insurance policy - as well as equipment such as a helmet and bright coloured clothing, the publication added.
It stated that police will hand out official warnings to those who contravene the rules in such areas.
John Lear from the local residents association has said that he welcomes the new measures, "but only if they are implemented properly".
"At the moment the police often give riders a polite slap on the wrist, and let them go off and do it again. The law as it stands is simply ignored," he remarked.
Yesterday the Town Crier Today reported that three mini motorbikes were crushed in Oxmoor after police found riders acting irresponsibly while travelling on them.
