Cost of fuel up north 'has increased 50% in two years'
Motorbike riders in the north of England are paying almost half as much more for fuel as they were two years ago, according to new research.
Statistics published in the Sunday Sun show that people were paying 90.9p for diesel in January 2006, but now they spend around 136.2p.
The cost per gallon is approximately £6, which could prove to be too expensive for those already paying for expensive motorbike insurance and road tax bills.
Brendan Mcloughlin, the man behind Petrolprices.com, commented that the current cost of fuel is "a landmark", the news source added.
"[The figure] highlights how much fuel has risen. Diesel is more economical, so many are switching to diesel cars, but this increases demand and pushes the price up further," said the expert.
Increasing petrol costs saw hauliers across the UK protest in London earlier this month.
For some drivers, the hike in prices has been so steep that they have had difficulty keeping their tanks full while working.
Included in the protest was an open letter to prime minister Gordon Brown.
