Revealed: £15m price of parking in Leeds

Approximately £15 million is paid by drivers to park in Leeds each year, according to new statistics.

Research from the Department of Communities and Local Government show this amount to be 100 per cent more than motorists in the city were paying four years ago, the Yorkshire Evening Post has reported.

It could be that this extra cost proves too much for motorcycle riders already paying out for motorcycle insurance and road tax bills.

However, the price of parking in Leeds is still "very competitive", remarked a spokeswoman for the local council.

The official remarked that drivers still pay less to leave their vehicles in council-owned car parks than company-owned sites.

She said: "We regularly check the markets locally and nationally and find that our charges for parking services are around 40 per cent less than that in the private sector."

This comes as the Daily Post has revealed combined cost of parking fines paid across four areas of North Wales.

According to the news source, drivers spent some £900,000 leaving their vehicles in illegal places or unwarranted positions.
