Peterborough drivers 'travelling without motor insurance'
Drivers in Peterborough are taking to roads in the region despite not having a proper motor insurance policy, it has been reported.
Peterborough Today has reported that statistics from the Motor Insurers' Bureau show that for every 20 motorists travelling in the area, one does not have a car or bike insurance deal.
This equates to five per cent of the 123,134 vehicles on the road being without cover, the figures revealed.
Furthermore, they show that there were 1,125 crashes on highways in Cambridgeshire involving drivers that do not have insurance deals.
This could prove a problem for motorists looking for a motorcycle insurance deal in the future, as cover firms could view them as a risk and increase costs as a result.
A police spokesperson commented that there are still "a number of drivers" who still think it is acceptable to travel without cover.
"We will continue our robust enforcement of the law, seizing any vehicles we find being driven illegally," the representative added.
This comes after an RAF survey cited by the Blackpool Gazette found that half of the drivers in the UK believe British roads will be gridlocked within 20 years.
