First man qualifies to teach bike safety
An ex-police advanced rider has become the first motorcycle instructor in the UK to complete tests that will permit him to offer the Driving Standards Agency's (DSA) Enhanced Rider Training Scheme.
The qualifying procedure started for Gary Edwards last January and since then he has had to pass theory and hazard perception tests, reports the Wrexham Leader.
Once he had completed this part, Mr Edwards also had to undergo a riding ability examination, which was overseen by a senior DSA examiner, and an additional instructor's ability test.
Alys Hale, the owner of AJS Driver Training, commented: "I am thrilled to have Gary working as an instructor, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience built up over a number of years as a police advanced rider and police advanced driver trainer."
Those who hold motorbike licenses but decide to develop their riding skills by taking the Enhanced Rider Training Scheme will be able to reduce the cost of their bike insurance once they have passed.
Recently the Argus Lite reported that the DSA had to relocate a number of its centres to out-of-town locations to ensure that motorcycle tests carried out by its instructors would comply with tougher testing criteria imposed by the EU.
