Electric motorcycle to enter Greenfleet challenge
Courier firm CitySprint, current holders of the Greenfleet Capital Fuel Challenge title, will defend its position with its new environmentally-friendly electric motorcycle.
The company will enter the latest addition to its fleet, the Vectrix electric motorbike, as well as an electric van, reports the Transport News Network. Entries will have to plan the most efficient route around a 24-mile course through the streets of London.
The goal of the competition is to have the lowest carbon emissions possible and the organisers have put particular emphasis on eco-friendly fuels and vehicles. Entrants for the final awards ceremony held in September will be given the opportunity to present their green credentials to a panel of judges. Last year, CitySprint beat Tesco and Green Tomatoes to be crowned the Transport for London Private Sector Capital Fleet of the Year. Other vehicles used by the company include CityTrikes, smart cars and pushbikes.
Bikers thinking of purchasing an electric machine or starting up their own courier business should ensure that they take out suitable motorcycle insurance. In related news, electric vehicles are expected to rapidly increase in popularity as parking if often free, there is no excise duty to pay and they can cost as little as 15p a mile to run, reports the Telegraph.
