Tribute to TT racer will be star of Llangollen show
The motorbike show at Llangollen next month will feature a unique 1910 500cc Corah owned by Don Leeson as a tribute to the biker who was killed while racing in the Isle of Man TT.
Mr Leeson was the owner of 40 to 50 machines which were sold at auction two years after his fatal accident in 2005, reports the Denbighshire Free Press. The 57-year-old was one of the founders of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club and had completed the TT seven times before losing control on a bend riding his Honda.
David Green, organiser of the Llangollen Motorbike Show, commented: "We are absolutely delighted that we are able to provide a platform to display such a rare bike as a tribute to Don Leeson, who was something of a legend in motorcycling circles." He added that it was particularly appropriate because the show was being held close to where Mr Leeson lived and near the infamous Horseshoe pass, a route that attracts bikers from all round the country.
The Corah was ridden during the winner's parade by Frank Whiteway, who was triumphant in the Isle of Man TT in 1992. Motorbike enthusiasts thinking of purchasing a vintage bike or riding to the Llangollen event should ensure that they take out motorcycle insurance. The first bike show in Llangollen will feature Steve and Ian Barnett, who are six-times champions in motorbike and sidecar Enduro racing, the biker's answer to rally racing, reports the Wrexham Evening Leader.
