Boris reveals bus lane plan
London's motorcyclists could soon find it easier to navigate their way round the capital's streets, if Boris Johnson gets his way.
The new mayor has set about dismantling Ken Livingstone's roads policy, with one of his first moves to abandon plans to change the congestion charge to make it based on the CO2 emissions of vehicles.
Instead he has asked Transport for London (TfL) to look at a number of measures, including re-phasing traffic lights and more careful planning of work by utilities companies.
Perhaps the most straightforward of Mr Johnson's proposals to implement is to allow motorbikes to use bus lanes.
TfL has now revealed this could come into force in some parts of the capital before the end of the year.
This could mean London-based motorcycle insurance customers see their commuting times cut even further.
A study conducted by the RAC Foundation last year found that British car drivers have some of the longest commutes in Europe.
Over a fifth of drivers quizzed admitted that they often felt jealous of motorcyclists and scooter owners, because as their cars were stuck in rush hour jams, they saw riders negotiate their way through traffic easily and quickly.
