Yamaha tops sales charts

Yamaha has topped the country's motorbike sales charts for the third consecutive month with its new YZFR125.

The Japanese manufacturer claimed that its "leading learner legal sport bike" has "dominated" bike sales since its launch in May.

Clearly proving popular with motorbike insurance customers, the YZFR125 is "flying straight out of the door" of dealers across the UK, the firm stated.

Meanwhile, its "extremely capable and economic" YBR125 bike was ranked second on the sales charts in July.

Geoff Selvidge, divisional manager for motorcycles at Yamaha, said: "Once again the figures show that the YBR125 is the motorbike to have for riders wanting to beat congestion and reduce the cost of commuting."

The company is also anticipating strong sales next month on the back of the YZFR125's "phenomenal success" and the Free Subsidised motorbike insurance offer it is running on the YBR125.

Last month, TV presenter Dominic Littlewood, who contributes to BBC's One Show, recently said he had ditched his "gas-guzzling" cars for a new 660cc Yamaha MT-03.

The star claimed the MT-03 was the "perfect bike" for him, describing it as "nimble and punchy" with "gallons of style".

Littlewood said he was hoping to promote the economic and environmental benefits of motorcycling.
