BSA Owners go for world record

Hundreds of BSA motorcycle owners descended on the Isle of Man recently in an attempt to break a world record.

The BSA owners met in Laxey ahead of their international rally during the practice week of the Manx Grand Prix, Isle of Man Today reports.

Classic motorbike insurance customers may be interested to know that former US astronaut James Van Hoften travelled to the event with his 650cc BSA A10.

Peter Twyman, who organised the event, said he hoped the record would be confirmed in the upcoming edition of the Guinness Book of Records.

"Over all we have 515 people here and about 350 bikes in total but not everyone came because of the rain," he told the news provider.

This year's Classic Motor Show held at Birmingham's NEC on November 14th to 16th is to feature a greater range of classic motorcycles, including rare and "unusual" ones.

Andy Rouse, manager of the show, said the interest in classic bikes has grown significantly, prompting the show's organisers to set aside an entire hall for such two-wheeled rarities.

The show has also invited classic motorcycle clubs to apply for space to display at the event.
