Safety day for young bikers
The Motor Cycle Industry Association is hosting an event aimed at encouraging young bikers to ride more safely.
Held as part of the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, the Youth Day is expected to see 700 young people learning about road safety and accident prevention.
A growing number of people are choosing to travel by motorbikes, scooters and mopeds, the association stated, attributing this trend to the rising costs of motoring, such as motorbike insurance.
Karen Cooke, head of safety at the organisation, said: "We want to instill a sense of responsibility and the need for good training, but young people can also be enthusiastic about bikes and their benefits."
Powered two-wheelers are "part of the answer to road congestion" and also "represent freedom and mobility", Ms Cooke stated.
The association wants young people to be "properly prepared" for riding on the road, she added.
This year's show will be taking place between November 28th and December 7th at the Birmingham NEC.
According to a recent report by the group, sales of powered two-wheelers rose by 22 per cent in July.
The number of new registrations is now one per cent higher for the first seven months of this year than last year, it stated.
