Police investigate motorbike theft

West Yorkshire police are aiming to make the region's roads safer by urging motorists and motorcycle riders to be more considerate.

Officers from the Motorcycle Unit are to take to the roads over the course of this month to speak to motorists who do not demonstrate awareness of other road users, such as motorcycle riders.

Sergeant Graham Wood from the Motorcycle Unit, said: "The safety of everyone who uses our roads is our paramount concern, so this campaign is not about targeting motorcyclists, but about raising awareness amongst all road users of the presence of motorcyclists on our roads."

The initiative forms part of a national campaign to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on the country's roads.

Sergeant Wood said anyone found to have committed a serious offence will be "dealt with accordingly", which could affect their motorbike insurance premiums.

In related news, police in Leeds are appealing for information after a 15-year-old boy was injured in a traffic collision on Saturday August 30th.

The driver involved in the incident, who is thought to have been driving a blue Ford Escort, did not stop at the scene.
