HA issues advice ahead of Donington Superbikes
Those travelling to Donington Park this weekend for the British round of the World Suprbike Championship have been warned that traffic levels are expected to build up in the area.
According to the Highways Agency (HA), the M1 is expected to be busier than usual as motorcycle riders and other road users make their way to the event.
It estimated that tens of thousands of fans would be travelling to Donington, many of whom will be arriving on motorbikes.
The HA is advising people making their way to the region, which may include a number of bike insurance customers, to ensure they allow extra time for their journeys.
Motorists are also urged to be aware that they are sharing the roads with motorcyclists.
Earlier this week, West Yorkshire police warned motorists that motorcyclists are often harder to see.
The force has launched a new campaign aimed at raising awareness of the presence of motorcyclists among car drivers to ensure that riders travel "safely and without injury to themselves or anybody else".
Pulling over road users who are driving carelessly, the campaign will see those who commit serious offences prosecuted, Sergeant Graham Wood from the Motorcycle Unit said.
