Motorcycle officers guide cycle race
Police motorcyclists from West Yorkshire are to take charge of the Tour of Britain cycle race this year, even though the event doesn't pass through the county.
West Yorkshire police were asked by organisers to take charge of policing the event after having successfully managed it on previous occasions.
Inspector Bob Brayshaw, from the force's operations support division, said being asked to be involved is a "real coup" for West Yorkshire police.
"While we will be in overall command of the Tour, we will be working very closely with the other forces involved to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that all involved have a safe and enjoyable event," he commented.

The force will be in command of the escort group made up of police motorcyclists from 12 forces across the country to ensure each stage of the race runs smoothly.
In total, 28 police motorcyclists will be involved at each stage.
The event sets off in London before making its way to the south-east of England for the second stage starting in Milton Keynes.
It then takes in the south-west, the West Midlands, Yorkshire, the north-east, Scotland and the north-west of England.
