Snake Pass voted best road
The Snake Pass between Sheffield and Glossop has been voted the UK's best road by a poll of motorists.
No doubt a favourite with motorbike insurance customers, the A57 received 24.8 per cent of vote in a survey which was organised by sports car manufacturer Caterham.
The A537 'Cat & Fiddle road' between Macclesfield and Buxton was ranked second with 24 per cent of the vote, while the A18 'Mountain Section' on the Isle of Man made it into third place with 18.2 per cent.
Andy Noble, sales and marketing director for Caterham Cars, said: "Due to the large amount of congestion motorists now face, it is often easy to forget how enjoyable driving can be.
"But turn off from the beaten track and there are plenty of roads that remind us that driving is still a privilege."
However, road users also voted for the country's worst stretches of roads, with the M25 receiving 31.4 per cent of the vote and being described as the "antithesis of driving".
The M1 was ranked second-worst, while the M6 between junctions four and 12 was voted third.
Craig Carey-Clinch from the Motor Cycle Industry Association recently said that a fall of just one per cent in motorbike sales represented a year of "very strong performance" for the motorcycle industry.
