Police in South Yorkshire have seized a number of motorbikes as it aims to crackdown on nuisance riders.

With the assistance of Doncaster council, the Wheatley and Intake Safer Neighbourhood Team confiscated seven motorbikes on Sunday September 14th.

PS John Hunter said: "The illegal use of off road motorbikes which are causing a danger to the community and noise nuisance will not be tolerated."

The force will seek to bring prosecutions against people who use bikes illegally, PS Hunter warned.

During the operation, one person was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, while another was charged with a public order offence.

Police in Barnoldswick recently warned that any people who ride mini motos do not realise they need a driving licence, motorcycle insurance and tax and registration, Pendle Today reports.

Sergeant Brian Strickland said riders pushing a bike along the road or path can be prosecuted, as well as those who choose to ride them in a private field or park without permission.

"We have the power to seize and retain any of these bikes being inconsiderately ridden - and we will," he warned.

The officer made his comments after residents lodged complaints about people riding such bikes in the area.
