TT rider recruitment revs up

The recruitment of British Superbike riders for the Isle of Man TT continues, according to a report.

Superbike News states that a group of riders visited the island for a tour of the TT Mountain Course, during which they may have needed to consider motorbike insurance for themselves and their bikes.

The racers, all under the age of 30, were shown how current TT stars Nick Crowe, Conor Cummins and Gary Johnson tackle the demands of the 37-mile street circuit.

During their visit they were driven around the circuit, with an emphasis on riding safely and looking out for hazards.

Started in 2004, the rider recruitment programme has seen ten first-timers break the 120mph barrier and bikers such as Guy Martin, Cameron Donald and James Hillier take the newcomers trophy.

According to the news provider the scheme has been a "resounding success", with average speed differences between the first and last place riders falling over the years.

"Clearly, the quality of the field has ridden considerably," it comments.

This year the Isle of Man TT celebrated its centenary event, which was started following a law approving the closure of roads for car trials.

In the early years races took place on the 15.8-mile St John's Course before moving to the current route in 1914.
