Police tackle illegal bike nuisance
Police in South Yorkshire have seized a number of motorbikes in an operation intended to reduce the number of illegal motorbikes being ridden on the road.
During the campaign, which was undertaken by the Edlington Safer Neighbourhood Team in Doncaster, 12 motorbikes were seized during the summer months.
The team noted that there was a significant reduction in nuisance motorbike complaints.
As part of the initiative, funding was provided to help set up a 12-month motorcycle scheme for young people, with local schools and Doncaster council providing facilities and tuition to develop motorcycle skills.
Commenting on the success of the initiative, Maureen Tennison from the Edlington Neighbourhood Watch, said: "This was a good initiative with Neighbourhood Watch, Doncaster council and the police working closely together.
"This is one of the most proactive and successful operations to run in Edlington and Warmsworth and potential offenders know it."
Police in Lancashire recently warned people riding mini motos that, like other road users, need a driving licence, motorbike insurance, tax and registration, Pendle Today reports.
Riders can be prosecuted for pushing a bike along the street and if they are riding on private land or in a park without permission, Sergeant Brian Strickland warned.
