Council aims to boost motorcycle safety

A council in Wales is running a new scheme to provide additional tuition to motorcycle riders to help improve safety, which may benefit motorcycle insurance holders looking to brush up on their skills.

Powys county council, in partnership with Dyfed Powys police, is launching a Motorbike Assessment Scheme - the first of its kind in Wales.

The scheme involves a half-day training session during which motorbike riders can spend several hours on the road accompanied by police officers.

Councillor Gwilym Evans, council board member responsible for road safety, said motorcyclists are among the "most vulnerable" road users in the region.

"We want to promote safer riding and reduce the number of motorcyclists killed or seriously injured on the roads in Powys and this assessment, along with our other initiatives will help us achieve this," the councillor stated.

The first session is to be held on October 6th at the Media Resource Centre in Llandrindod Wells.

In related news, TyreSafe recently urged motorcyclists to ensure they maintain their tyres properly.

The organisation advised people to ensure they know the correct tyre pressures for their bikes, they clean the wheels and remove foreign objects, and make sure their tread depth meets current legal requirements.
