New motorcycle land-speed record recorded

A US biker has set a new motorcycle land-speed record, motorcycle insurance customers may be interested to learn.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has congratulated Rocky Robinson and his Top 1 ACK Attack team for setting the record at the Bonneville Salt Flats on September 26th.

Representatives from the Federation Internationale de Motorcyclisme and the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile were on hand to certify that Robinson travelled at an average speed of 360.913 mph.

The previous record had been held by Chris Carr, who travelled at 350.884 mph at the BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials at the Flats in 2006.

AMA president and chief executive officer Rob Dingman said: "There are many types of motorcycle competition, from trials to road-racing, but one achievement that riders of all stripes can appreciate is the absolute land-speed record.

"Since the first two-wheeled vehicle rolled under its own power, riders have been searching for ways to make their motorcycles go faster."

The Top 1 ACK Attack team have set a "new threshold to surpass", he added.

First established in 1924, the AMA aims to protect and promote the interests of the US's motorcyclists.

It also oversees both professional and amateur racing events.
