Honda developing hybrid motorbikes
Honda Motor Co is planning to produce a range of hybrid motorcycles, motorbike insurance customers may be interested to learn.
According to Japanese newspaper the Mainichi Daily News, Honda believes it can begin selling hybrid motorcycles by 2010.
It is understood that Honda is planning to develop a hybrid engine small enough to fit onto a motorcycle frame and produce bikes of between 200 and 1,000cc.
Hybrid bikes will be 50 per cent more fuel-efficient than normal engines, the manufacturer stated.
The newspaper noted that the firm was also planning to design a number of electric-power motorcycles to be launched in 2011, which may appeal to environmentally-conscious motorbike insurance customers.
Earlier this week, fans of motorbike racing were given an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the new limited edition yellow CBR1000RR Fireblade to celebrate Steve Brogan's British Superstock Championship title win.
The 27-year-old rider from the HM Plant Honda team rode the new bike around the Silverstone circuit in the most recent round of the competition.
Steve Martindale, general manager of Honda UK Motorcycles, said Brogan's win has provided the manufacturer with an opportunity to give its customers a "great new" version of its popular Fireblade motorcycle.
